Hillside Home

|

Moretown, Vermont

The four-bedroom hillside home emerges from the sloping site to take advantage of light and views. The south side captures sunlight and solar energy and the west end focuses on mountain views across the valley. Shifting and overlapping forms create an interesting composition on the land and the juxtaposition of gabled and flat-roofed forms breaks up the massing. Exposed concrete walls and local rough-sawn Pine add texture to the home.

We asked Joan to design a contemporary home that felt like an old barn in the woods, not fully understanding what we meant!  She spent hours understanding our interests, how the house would be used, and our style.  She came up with a design that maximized our mountain views, while retaining the feel of living in the forest.  Using the most modern materials and finishes, she was able to create the “feel” of an old barn while giving us every creature comfort we could want.  We love our new home, and are grateful we were able to partner with Joan and her team to bring it to life.
